Swimming Pool Fire Pumps

Swimming pool - a great source of water in a wild fire situationDid you know that the average swimming pool contains about 20,000 gallons, while a typical fire truck only holds about 500 gallons?

A swimming pool, pond or other water source combined with a powerful swimming pool fire pump can therefore can be a great resource when preparing for a wild fire. This is especially true when mains water pressure can be compromised during a wild fire emergency when fire departments are taking water from hydrants.

The swimming pool fire pumps are mounted on carts for easy maneuverability. Once positioned next to a pool, a suction hose is submerged into the water. Hose are attached to the discharge fittings, the fire pump is primed and the gas or diesel engine (depending on model) is started. The water spray is controlled by a pistol grip shutoff. Every pump from Poolside Portable Pumps is supplied with professional grade accessories, such as fire hose, nozzles and the suction hose.

Bart Tuttle, founder and president of Poolside Portable Pumps, also recommends using a class-A foam (such as Foam-Fast) or a gel system (such as Barricade gel) in conjunction with the pumps. By spraying down a structure with such products prior to a wild fire situation offers the structure some protection. Barricade gel works by mixing with high pressure water to create a protective barrier. This sticks to vertical structures and provided thermal protection. Bart also highly recommends that home owners always evacuate when advised to do so.

Bart Tuttle, founcer of Poolside Portable Pumps demonstrates a swimming pool fire pumpPoolside Portable Pumps supplies several fire pumps. The most powerful will pump 400 gallons per minute at 125 PSI and spray as much as 200 feet from the poolside. At a recent demonstration at the City of Poway fire department, one of the swimming pool fire pumps was able to spray water higher than a 5 story practice tower.

Unfortunately if you live in Poway, RB, Rancho Penasquitos, Black Mountain, El Cajon, or anywhere in Southern California, then you are well aware of the continued fire threat during wild fire season. Not only that, but these areas are also full of brush and other flammable vegetation. Using a powerful swimming pool fire pump is a way of improving the chances that your property would survive a wild fire.

For advice on your fire preparedness needs, phone Bart Tuttle at 858 513 2677 or email sales@poolsideportablepumps.com for a free, no obligation consultation. Bart is always happy to explain how to operate and maintain the pumps and can even schedule house calls to take care of regular maintenance and equipment checks.
